本日は先日販売を開始した新商品に使われている生地の素材である、新疆綿(しんきょうめん)の素晴らしさについてお伝えしたいと思います。
Today, we would like to tell you about the excellecnce of Xinjiang cotton, which is the material of the fabric used in the new item that was recently launched.
新疆綿とは、中国のウイグル自治区で栽培されている超長繊維綿であることは以前もご説明致しました。新疆綿はギザ綿、ピマ綿と並んで世界三大コットンと呼ばれており、繊維長が長い｢超長繊維綿｣であることから、滑らかさや光沢感が強い点に特徴があります。
We have previously explained that Xinjiang cotton is an ultra-long fiber cotton grown in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of China. Xinjiang cotton is called the world’s three major cotton, along with Giza cotton and Pima cotton, and is characterized by its strong smoothness and luster because it is an “ultra-long fiber cotton” with a long fiber length.
これまでギザやスーピマコットンを用いたアイテムを利用したことはありましたが、新疆綿の生地に触れたことは今回が初めてでした。
We had used items made of Giza and Supima cotton, but this was the first time we had touched Xinjiang cotton fabrics.
商品企画において生地の選定をしている際に、その美しい光沢感が目に留まり、小さな生地の切れ端であるにもかかわらず、触った瞬間の滑らかな心地良さに魅了されてセレクトしたという経緯がありました。
When we were selecting fabrics for product planning, the beautiful luster caught our eye, and we were fascinated by the smooth comfort of the moment we touched it, even though it was only a small piece of fabric.
そして商品として仕上がってきた実物を見て、実際に袖を通して感じたことは、素晴らしい生地に出会えたという感謝の気持ちでした。
And when we actually saw the finished item, what we felt when we actually tried it on was a sense of gratitude that we had found a wonderful fabric.
DRĒIPSの顔とも言える、最も定番的な商品であるBasic Collection のホワイトのコットンシャツにはGIZAコットンが用いられています。GIZAコットンも美しい光沢感としっとりとした触り心地が素晴らしいのですが、これに比べるとモチモチとした、肉厚感のある触り心地が加わったのが新疆綿と言う印象です。
The face of DRĒIPS and the most standard item, the white cotton shirt of the Basic Collection, is made of GIZA cotton. GIZA cotton also has a beautiful luster and moist feel, but compared to this, we have the impression that Xinjiang cotton has a softness and springy and thick feel.
もちろんこれには低速の、昔ながらの織機を用いた遠州織物であることも大きい要因だと考えています。効率性重視の最新の織機で織った生地は硬くなってしまいますが、低速ならではの織機で織ることで、空気を含んだような柔らかさであったり、素材の良さをしっかりと引き出すことの出来る生地に仕上がるのです。
Of course, we think that the fact that it is an Enshu textile using a low-speed, old-fashioned loom is also a major factor in this. Fabrics woven on the latest high-speed looms with an emphasis on efficiency will be stiff, but weaving on low-speed looms will make them soft as if they were filled with air, bringing out the goodness of the material.
